Mark Outhwaite, Esq., Chairman

Mark served in the Army as a Regular Officer from 1977 to 1988. His final role was as a Tank Squadron Leader in 4RTR. He also served in Cyprus with the UN and as an instructor at the Armoured Schools in Bovington Camp in Dorset. He left the Army in 1988 to do an MBA at City University Business School and thence joined the NHS in 1989 undertaking a succession of Chief Executive roles finishing as a Director of a national NHS agency. Since 2005 he has run his own consulting company still working largely with the public sector. Mark is also a non-executive director of an NHS Trust and a Trustee of a national charity supporting staff and ex-staff in the automotive sector.

Mark has been a member of the club since 1980 (when he was proposed by his father, also a long-standing member). He was previously a Board Director, standing down in 2018 prior to being re-elected in 2019 and thence appointed as Chairman by the Board in June 2019.

Mark joined the Club in 1980 at the same time as he joined the 4th Royal Tank Regiment. He left the Army in 1988 as a Major having commanded a Tank Squadron in Germany and completed a full-time MBA at City University Business School. He then spent 13 years in the NHS as a Chief Executive in a number of different NHS Health Authorities, finishing his NHS career as a Director of a NHS national change management agency. He freed himself from the shackles of being employed by large public sector organisations in 2004, and now runs his own consultancy working as an Executive Coach and providing change management support in the health sector.

He is a Chartered Member of the CIPD and a Member of the British Computer Society. Married with two teenage daughters and living in Wiltshire he uses the Club for entertaining friends, colleagues and clients, as a refuge and for its business facilities. Mark feels the Club is its Members and staff as well as the building. He believes the Club has the opportunity not just to survive but also to thrive. In doing so the Board needs to find different ways to engage its Members in exploring the challenges and choices they face and the best way for tackling them successfully. As a Director he hopes to be able to help with that challenge.
